The King of Fruits

Have you ever seen a fruit covered in spikes?

That is the durian, often called the King of Fruits. Its outer shell is hard and prickly, but inside, it holds soft, creamy flesh that many people love.

Durians are easy to spot at fruit stalls. They are stacked in tall piles and when one is opened, the smell spreads quickly through the air. Some people enjoy the strong scent, while others find it too powerful.

Inside, the fruit is divided into sections. Each piece is smooth and rich, with a taste that is sweet, slightly bitter and unlike any other fruit.

Eating durian is often a shared moment. Families and friends gather around, choosing their favourite pieces and talking as they enjoy the fruit together.

The durian may not be for everyone, but it is a unique part of life in Singapore - bold, memorable and full of character.

Did You Know?

Because of its strong smell, durian is not allowed on public transport like the MRT in Singapore.
