Traditional Games
Singapore has many traditional games that children used to play long before screens and devices became part of everyday life. These games were simple, creative and full of laughter, often played outdoors with friends.
One popular game is five stones, where players toss small objects into the air and catch them in different patterns. It requires skill, focus and quick hands.
Another favourite is chapteh, a feathered shuttlecock that players kick to keep in the air without letting it drop. It is fast, energetic and fun to play in groups.
Children also played gasing, or spinning tops, competing to see whose top spins the longest. Each top is carefully wound and released with precision.
Many of these games did not need expensive equipment — just everyday items and imagination. They brought children together, encouraging teamwork, creativity and friendly competition.
Today, these traditional games are still remembered and sometimes played during cultural events and school activities. They remind us that fun does not always come from technology, but from the joy of playing together.
